Feature
Dale Fawcett worked on the Edmonton Ice District, a $2.5 billion project, Phase 1 – the Rogers Place arena and Ford Hall lobby. He advised the Oilers Hockey Club production company, and 360-HOK-Populace one of the largest architectural firms in the world.
Fawcett performed the roles of:
Acoustician – extensive acoustic treatments for the main seating bowl, main and upper concourses, six clubs on eight levels, open sound booth, high-end restaurant, players dressing rooms, green rooms, and the Ford Hall lobby.
- best acoustical treatment USA and Canada, the Founder’s Award 2017, Ford Hall.
- best NHL Visitors Dressing Room 2017 and 2019.
- an international celebrity commented about performing in the new Bowl. “So many arenas are purely built for sport and the sound suffers, but not Rogers Place, it’s one of the best sounding arenas I’ve played in.
Sound Designer – 1,500 ceiling speakers, 144 main loudspeakers, distribution system with 480 inputs and 420 outputs, broadcast interfaces, community rink, and a 15 ft. high loudspeaker for Ford Hall.
Audio Network Design – dual, dedicated digital audio network, 1/2 mile in length. Both the network and extensive customized software were created by Ray Rayburn, AES Life Fellow, one of the most capable audio professionals worldwide. Sadly missed.

sound stage for the early Toronto film industry (Paramount Pictures, Cinevillage), artist playback room (Warner Music), first commercial 5.1 surround system (new Hockey Hall of Fame, a Disney project), 4-pad hockey arenas, swimming pools, theatres (Summerside PEI, National Arts Centre), jersey retirement event (Jari Kurri), 2014 FIFA Women’s under 20 World Cup (Edmonton Stadium), worship spaces, Dolby Atmos® screening rooms.
Beginnings
Dale Fawcett began as a session musician for Doug Riley (Dr. Music), laying down radio spots and commercials. Performances followed on 12 television shows, Celebration, a CBC series. He furthered his music studies in England. The Canadian Brass invited him to be Musical Advisor for 3 albums on the Columbia Records Masterworks label.
Dale and Priscilla Fawcett invested in the TEF analyzer designed by Jet Propulsion Labs and built by Crown Amplifiers. Later they were early adopters of the industry standard EASE modeling program, and the first to purchase the Smaart calibration and sound optimizing program developed by Sam Berkow.
